How To Get Rid Of A Headache

There are a number of commonly known headache types and various causes of headaches.. These include migraine headaches, tension headaches, chronic daily headaches, cluster headaches, ice pick headaches and sinister headaches. Whatever your cause, here are some suggestions on how to get rid of a headache.

First, Headaches for some people may be part of a daily life condition, some are lighter and some are stronger, but you can get rid of them quite quickly with out the extra help of medication. The following will benefit light to medium headaches mostly but if you suffer from a migraine it does not hurt to test it out, and the good thing about this method is that you can do it at any place at any time..

First thing to do is take your hands and rub them together for thirty second or until you feel your palms quite warm. Next place one hand over your forehead and the other one across the back of your neck, close your eyes and stay like this for thirty seconds to a minute. hen remove your hands and open your eyes and your headache should be leaving soon, because your warm hands relax your face muscles and therefore relieving the pressure that brought on the headache in the first place.

Another method that works well with migranes too, take an extra strength pain reliever. Always follow the dosage chart on the back. Dim the lights. Have your spouse watch the kids and let you rest alone. Take a warm shower. Turn the lights down and light a candle. Let the water run down you as you take a deep breathe. Subconsciously with our migraines or headaches, we tense up. The key here is to relax, stop tensing up, as this is making the migraine headache worse. You can sit in the tub portion as the shower water runs down, close your eyes for a moment and try to relax. Slowly roll your head to the left, then back- to the right and then forward. Do this again in the opposite direction. Stay in the shower as long as you need to. If you had plans that can be cancelled do so. Be in no rush. Alleviate your stress.

If it doesn't completely rid your migraine headache, it will definitely take it down to a tolerable level, and then simply wait a half hour, and repeat the shower again..

You can also get rid of headaches by releasing endorphins: you can stimulate your body's natural painkilling ability and stop your headache.

  1. Feel the top ridge of your eye socket under the eyebrow. You will discover a small groove in your skull about the center of the top of the eye socket. In this groove is a nerve which is very sensitive to pressure. If you compress this nerve, it will be very painful. However, the pain will stimulate the pituitary to release endorphins immediately. The endorphins are the body's own natural painkillers and are more powerful than morphine. To stimulate the nerve, push hard against it for about 10 seconds.
  2. A similar method for releasing endorphins is to take a couple teaspoons of cayenne pepper in a glass of water. This is not harmful. When the cayenne hits the stomach lining, endorphins will be released by the brain to stop the pain.
  3. Ice packs have been used for years to treat headaches and they still work. You can usually find ice packs at your drugstore. Also you could just put a cold rag on your neck or forehead. Many headaches are caused by tense neck muscles. Conversely, use a moist hot pack but not too hot to loosen up tense muscles - see which works best for you.
  4. Massage the ears and ear lobes as well as the neck. If you can, find two tennis balls or racquet balls and put them in a sock. Lay on a flat surface and place the two balls just below the base of your skull on the occipital and relax. You may feel sinus pressure or minimal discomfort at first but it will go away. Lay in this position with the still point on the occipital for as long as needed. This is especially helpful for sinus headaches.
  5. Similar in concept to the endorphin release - nerve stimulation through acupressure can offer some relief of symptoms. Search for "Do-in" or "acupressure" on the web.
  6. *Reflexology - With one hand, massage the area between the thumb and forefinger on the other hand and hold. Use only as much pressure as you can tolerate and be sure to breath deeply and relax-this spot will probably be painful. Hold it until the pain level reduces significantly and repeat with more pressure. Do this on both hands and repeat as needed.
  7. If you rub or massage your temples on each side of your head it with release the built up tension of your headache.

  • Massage the "crown" of your head. There is a ring of muscles that circle the head where a crown would sit. Once the muscles have relaxed, your headache will disappear!
  • Get off the computer and go to a light, quiet room and read.
  • Headaches are a result of trauma or blockage. If you didn't get hit in the head, it's probably blockage. The most powerful action of cayenne (capsaicin) on a head ache is not the release of endorphins, although this is a feature. The primary action is the circulatory system response. This will help get blood pumping better to the pained part of your head.
  • Try putting a cold compress on your forehead or behind the neck. Many headaches are caused by tense neck muscles. Conversely, use a moist hot pack to loosen up tense muscles - see which works best for you.
  • Maintain good posture and do some stretching. Poor posture while working can cause what are known as tension headaches.. Staying in such a position for a very long time may cause the muscles of the neck and shoulders to tighten up. One way to get rid of this headache is to maintain a good posture while working. Every now and then or if you feel tension pains setting in, do some stretching to get rid of the headache before it gets worse.

Eat regularly. Do not skip meals because hunger and meal- skipping can also cause headaches. If you feel a headache about to start and you haven’t had anything to eat, take a break and grab a bite to prevent that headache from progressing further.

Drink lots of water. As much as possible, stick to the eight-glasses a day recommended amount of daily intake of water.. Water will cool down the body and so when you feel a major headache, drink up to get rid of it.

Too much copper and not enough zinc cause frontal headaches. A woman's copper level rises during PMS week to prepare her uterine lining for shedding. If her body already has too much copper, this increased load will throw her body out of balance. Headaches are just one result of too much copper.

Watch what you eat. Some headaches are triggered by food. This is most especially true for those that suffer with migranes. So if you feel that your headache was prompted by something that you ate, stop eating that food and consult your doctor to determine whether this is truly the source of your headache.
